Methodology
Transparent, documented methodology for scoring MLB franchise competitive accountability. No black boxes. All assumptions stated.
The Competitive Index scores each MLB franchise on a 0-100 scale across multiple weighted dimensions: • Public Estimate Commitment Ratio — payroll ÷ Forbes public revenue estimate (25%) • Winning percentage (20%) • Competitive sustainability (15%) • Fan experience investment (15%) • Long-term trend trajectory (15%) • Revenue sharing compliance signal (10%) Each dimension is normalized against league medians and historical baselines to account for market size disparities and CBA-era shifts. The Commitment Ratio is a public estimate accountability signal based on Forbes public revenue estimates, not audited MLB books.
Data Integrity
The Competitive Index is committed to transparency. All data sources are publicly available. All scoring weights are documented. All proxies are validated. If you believe a data point is incorrect or a weight should be adjusted, contact us with evidence.
This is a directional accountability tool, not a precise financial instrument. Use it to understand competitive intent, not to litigate exact dollar amounts.
